♡ MICRONEEDLING ♡

Last week I had my friend and esthetician Amy give me a microneedling treatment. At Kitto Katto Skincare they use the SkinPen (which is the specific microneedling tool they use). The main questions I got from clients and friends were...

What is a Skin Pen?

SkinPen is a micro needling device that is intended to mimic the body's healing process by creating controlled micro-injuries onto the skin.

Does it hurt?

Numbing cream is applied and helps make the pain very minimal. The best way I can describe it would be a firm electric toothbrush. I prefer it over a wax any day!

What is the point?

Reduce the signs of aging. The micro-injuries trigger the release of cytokines and stimulate the production of elastin and collagen. The collagen III which is produced becomes collagen I as it heals which results in tightening. It is meant to improve overall skin texture and minimize fine lines.

Downtime?

Minimal downtime. Day one I was dark pink almost red. Day 2 the color lightened up significantly to a soft pink. You can wear makeup on the second day, I just opted not to. Day 3 the only redness was in spots I know she worked on a little extra like my smile lines, and the 11's between my brows.

Maintenance?

Maintenance protocol is determined by your practitioner. For me personally I am in a maintenance and preventative stage when it come to skincare. If there is a certain issue or area of concern, then most likely a series of 2-4 treatments will be done closer together.

How much?

Treatment ranges from $150-$500 depending on size of area and condition.

I loved it and will most likely go back to get another one in the next few months. The collagen being produced continues to work after it is initiated. So you continue to see results. Within the week I feel like my pores looked smaller, and the 11 I get between my brows from furrowing them was less noticeable. My skin felt tighter and smoother.

I documented the process above. After applying numbing cream she goes in with the pen as well as vitamin c Serum. The serum acts as a lubricant for the pen to glide. It is also super hydrating and will soak into the skin more efficiently with the pen as it is creating the injury. I then sat with a hydrating mask on to reduce swelling and redness.

Next time I will remember to go to the grocery store before I get nice and red, Other than that, it was a pretty painless easy process.
